The project keeps a particular focus on Japanese sanpuru (サンプル), which is an impeccable and faithful food replica, exquisitely displayed on restaurant windows.
These fake-food models question the nature of duplicates and the relationship between reproductions and their real-world referents. With a sequence that alternates vernacular photographs and large-format camera still-life the book wants to be a meditation around photography genres and the power of photography to create copies and models.
SAMPLE is composed of pictures shoot in Japan, Italy and France between 2015 and 2019 by the author Elia Pinna.
