As the highest point on earth, Mount Everest is also called the third pole.
The fourth pole is consequently the lowest continental point. In its current form, it only emerged in the recent past due to the steady decline of the Dead Sea and is located in the West Bank in Palestine. On a terrain that is shaped like no other by decades of political struggles between religions and countries.

The expedition by Julia Wirsching and Gabriel Hensche shifts the pre-stressed perspective to this area by declaring the region to be a pole and thus opens up an imagination space that is defined less by national than by topographic and autobiographical coordinates.

Paradoxically, the two travellers use the Fourth Pole to produce a place that is unknown to them and that may have to remain so. The text produced during your expedition accordingly ceases before the goal is reached.

The book is in four languages - Arabic, German, English and Hebrew - which pave their way from the front and back cover to the center of the book.
