ÉTÉ (Summer) marks Claire Guarry’s first photobook, a work that transcends the boundaries of family photography to become a refined exploration of photographic form. Although her children appear throughout the book, they are never simply its subjects; instead, their bodies become essential compositional elements, interacting with light, color, lines, and space in a visual language that is both intuitive and meticulously constructed.
Developed between California, Mexico, Argentina, and the Mediterranean, ÉTÉ unfolds through luminous, carefully sequenced images in which saturated colors, geometric precision, and echoes of post-war visual culture converge into a distinctly contemporary vision.
As the sequence progresses, photography itself emerges as the book’s underlying subject. More than a portrait of childhood, ÉTÉ expresses a singular gaze, transforming the everyday into a luminous and carefully composed visual experience
