“It started when I moved out of my shared flat. I lived in the same flat for more than 9 years and only moved to another room once. Then I got my own apartment. I used to cook for 4 people, now I have to learn how to cook for myself. Even the smallest loaf of bread dried out eventually.”

«HARTES BROT» is a photographic essay by Basel based photographer Moritz Schermbach. What began as a still life study in his flat, developed into a series of images that explores different genres of photography and the presence of the artist himself with his visual style in image-making.

Moritz Schermbach undertakes a journey through his understanding of photography and its ability of telling a story and showing something and therefore challenging his place as a photographer in the present time. A journey which takes the viewer into a rather gloomy atmosphere, with careful arrangements of various subjects and scenes – playfully constructed and told.

The booklet is unbound. The spreads with the seagulls can be taken out individually and used as posters.
