New Photography Book “Malmö Raceway” by Tomas Hein Captures the Thrills of Super Street Drag Racing
[Copenhagen, Denmark] - The recently published book “Malmö Raceway” by photographer Tomas Hein offers a stunning collection of photographs taken at Malmö Raceway during the Scandinavian summer.
Tucked away behind the veil of minimalistic design, bicycles and new nordic cuisine is the real Scandinavia: a land reminiscent of the American midwest for its rolling hills and forests, a tight knit community with family values at its core — and explosive internal combustion engines.
At first glance, the book presents an unbridled celebration of the sport by capturing the excitement and beauty of the world of super street Drag Racing. It showcases the drivers, audience, and colourful cars through a nostalgic lens, alongside abstract black and white macro photographs of the track’s rubber- covered surface. But these macro photographs create an eerie and unsettling scenery that looks like aerial photographs of post-apocalyptic landscapes, inviting reflection.
Malmö Raceway is both a celebration of the internal combustion engine and an uncommon portrayal of Scandinavian society.
