Marco D’Anna continues his exploration of global maritime trade routes. Following his previous project One Belt One Road (Artphilein Editions, 2019), the photographer shifts his focus—from the landscapes of stacked containers to vast cargo ships that appear as tiny silhouettes on the distant horizon of the main shipping lanes.

This photographic journey becomes a visual reflection on globalization, using cargo vessels as symbols of the complex and often invisible dynamics of global commerce.
In today’s economy, the production of goods—through stages of harvesting, extraction, processing, manufacturing, finishing, and distribution—frequently spans multiple continents. Before reaching the final consumer, a product may cross oceans several times. These interdependent manufacturing chains rely heavily on stable geopolitical conditions and international trade policies, making the shipping industry a critical lens through which to view our interconnected world - exposed at the rising risk of a global tax war.
