The project À la plage il y a une fête (There’s a party at the beach) is an invitation to take on a playful attitude towards reality, welcoming the surreal aspects of life. This type of spontaneity is mirrored in the graphic choice of the title, which imitates an accidental meeting between words. This evokes an cadavre exquis method, suitable for four-handed work, an act of repartee, in which the artists confront one another and confuse each other at the same time.
As avid collectors, aware of the crucial importance of details in contem- porary reality, Callegaro and Togni take ownership of banal objects, seiz- ing their communicative potential, in such a way creating images with a unique meaning. The material used gets animated by means of selection, association or reversion, its symbolic value altered by slight interventions. Hence, the artists produce a relation between partial representations that, through the process of rearrangement, draw a common thread, produc- ing a message.
